GED มีวิชาที่ต้องสอบชัดเจน  คือ

1. Language Arts, Reading: Literary, Poetry, Drama, Prose, Critical Review, and Business Document 

2. Language Arts, Writing: Sentence Structure, Usage, Mechanics, and Organization

3. .Mathematics: Number & Operations, Geometry, Measurement & Data Analysis, and Algebra

4. Science: Biology, Earth Science, Chemistry, and Physics

5. Social Studies: US & World, History, Geography, Civics & Government, and Economics

โดยในแต่ละวิชาจะมีคะแนนเต็ม 800 คะแนน ผู้สอบต้องสอบให้ได้อย่างน้อย 410 คะแนนขึ้นไปต่อวิชา และได้คะแนน รวม 5 วิชาตั้งแต่ 2,250 คะแนน จึงจะถือว่าสอบผ่านตามข้อกำหนดของหลักสูตร ถ้าสอบผ่านทุกวิชา ก็จะได้ Transcript  ซึ่งจะแจกแจงคะแนนในแต่ละวิชา และ Diploma เป็นใบประกาศนียบัตร
